Aaron Lewter
Principal Architect · Offensive Security Engineer · BSidesJAX Organizer
I design resilient systems, embed security by design, and build communities — at the intersection of architecture and security.
Enterprise Architecture
Designing cloud-native, resilient systems at scale. AWS infrastructure, healthcare interoperability, platform engineering, and enterprise architecture patterns.
Cybersecurity & Leadership
Security program leadership, offensive security engineering, incident response, and risk management. Everything from hands-on pentesting to C-suite strategy.
Background
I'm a Principal Architect at Availity, working in an advisory and thought leadership capacity across a healthcare data network that processes billions of transactions per year. Most of my recent focus has been on reimagining legacy systems in AWS using serverless and event driven architectures.
My career has followed an unusual arc from hands-on network and security infrastructure engineering, through VP-level roles at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America, up to executive leadership as a CISO, and now architecture and software engineering. Stepping back from the executive track was a deliberate choice. My focus has always been applying effective security controls by design, embedded into how systems are built from the start, not bolted on after the fact.
Outside of work I help organize BSidesJAX, a community security conference in Jacksonville, FL. I joined the team in 2023 as the CTF coordinator and also help maintain their website and Discord server.
